The convenience of not having to just stay at the campground is well worth it. Once I started towing with a Motorhome the camp site becomes more like a base camp. I am able to leave base camp and go do other things in the area. A tow vehicle makes my RVing experience better. Here are some recommended tow bars, dollies and other towing accessories to better your RV experience. If you are using an older tow bar assembly I highly suggest upgrading. I wish I had done this sooner. I no longer have to make sure the Jeep and motor home are perfectly aligned or on a completely flat surface to connect or disconnect. With a flip of two levers the Roadmaster releases itself. No more binding, hitting the assembly with a rubber mallet or having a second person hold one side of the tow bar to disconnect.

Heavy-duty sling type boom tow truck Towing a wrecked truck Towing of cars and trucks is a unique form, with an industry dedicated to it. Specialized “tow truck” vehicle types are most often used. Some of these are flatbed, with hydraulic tilting beds and winches and dollies to position the car behind the bed and pull it up onto the bed.
Others have a specialized boom hitch instead of a flatbed, which will lift one end of the car and allow it to ride on its remaining tires; they otherwise have similar equipment to the flatbeds and position and perform much like them. In other cases, a specialized vehicle dolly can be attached to a standard vehicle hitch; for example, some moving vehicle rental companies, such as U-Haul, will rent these dollies for one-way transport of cars.
Larger versions, with a long, weighted body and heavier duty engines, transmissions, and tow hooks, may be used for towing of disabled buses, truck tractors, or large trucks. The artificial sizing and weighting must be designed to withstand the greater weight of the towed vehicle, which might otherwise tip the tow truck back. When many cars are to be transported, rather than using a specialized vehicle, a specialized trailer may be used instead, attached to a standard tractor truck or other large vehicle.
These “motor carriers” often bring cars from factories to dealers. Their beds, on each level, may have channels or tracks to guide loading and further maintain transport stability.

August 5 50 minutes ago, brian said: Do you plan on doing heavy recovery at first, or simply towing and minor winching? The reason I ask, you can get a whole lot more truck for less money if you don’t need the full recovery capability. Also, it usually takes at least two heavy wreckers to qualify for police work and it is always a good idea to have a second heavy as backup when you are doing recovery unless you have a real good working relationship with another local heavy tower.
The newest versions of each of these are very capable and will tow motor homes and coaches easily. You also will be lighter overall allowing more weight to scale, if you are in an area that wreckers have to scale legal on their drive axles. Plus, you can also get a Landoll type trailer and use the same truck to pull both, greatly expanding your options and offerings, especially with many motor coaches in the area.

Registration We get the registration question a lot. Here is what we did – it is based on Texas registration, and doing this registration in Livingston where they are familiar with strange RV stuff; however, every state is different. We chose to title the tractor as a motor home.
You can do this in TX if you show that the tractor is self-contained. The Texas Title Manual contains the following: Converted Trucks and Buses Used trucks, truck-tractor and buses, which have been reconstructed or converted to contain living quarters, should title as Motor Homes and register with passenger plates.

Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information. This Hijacker Autoslides an automatic sliding fifth wheel hitch. It is designed for Ford Trucks with the factory towing prep package to give you additional clearance between the truck’s cab and the trailer during turning maneuvers. It also eliminates the need to get in and out of the truck, pull a pin and manually slide the hitch like on some hitches.
This will automatically slide by using the rack and pin and gear technology in the base of the hitch and it’ll give you up to 14 inches of travel to get in and out of those tight spots. Normally a fifth wheel trailer will turn or pivot in the jaw when the king pin’s connected to the hitch head. Once you install your pin box a normal fifth wheel hitch pin box rotates on the head. On this autoslide hitch it has this integrated locking system right in here.
This will lock that pin box in place on the hitch head. Eliminates the need for any additional locking wedges with a standard pin box. Instead this whole hitch head itself will pivot with the pin box locked in place and will move automatically closer to the tailgate when needed to create much more space between your truck cab and your trailer on sharp turns. The way it does not, normally I would demonstrate that but this need some weight on it to actually make it move and rotate. What happens is once your pin box is installed, when it’s in this position with the trailer directly behind it, it won’t go backwards.
There’s a guide plate here that will hold it in this place.
